Blogging for your opinion
Blogging for Opinions….

I awoke from a dream. It was realistic, so real I could smell the car engines and feel the heat rising from the blacktop.

I was running a store, MY store, my Occult store that I have always dreamed of…

And it was a successful endeavor.

So I ask of you all… answer me clearly… if you were wandering the streets of a city and stumbled upon a “magick shoppe” What would it be like? Describe it…. Please, for this will come to pass.

BTW, if you are a better spender than thinker, that’ll be just fine!!

My ideal "magick shoppe"

It would *not* be filled with crystals and little statuettes and tarot bags.

It would *not* have Enya, newage pseudo-Native American flutes, or waterfall sounds on the speakers.

The decor would be more like Addams Family than Hot Topic.

The oils and tinctures would be handmade, not ordered out of a catalog.

The herbs would have been grown in someone's garden, not shipped from China. Unless they were genuine Chinese medicinal herbs.

It would have odd little nooks and crannies with amazing magical stuff from the far ends of the world--penis gourds from Papua New Guinea, death-pointing-sticks from Australia, cowrie shells washed in the Oshun river--and books piled up to the ceiling where you might find, if you looked hard enough, original grimoires from the Medici, or parchment scrolls that once hung over cradles in medieval Andalucia.

The owner would be a knowledgeable, practicing magician, but not snotty about which traditions or groups he or she liked/disliked.

I agree with the previous comment! Also, it would be stocked with my home-made magick candles! I have some made, and waiting... I need more and varied oils for the next batch. I might be able to help with the home-grown herbs too. And, sexy t-shirts! Damn, I need to get busy!

What he said.

And sounds like the ATL might finally get "ye olde magick shoppe wtih un attitude" instead of the above mentioned crystals and sleep inducing flutes and waterfalls, in other words, NOT P&D. The part of Hoot Owl that has books is at least a bit better in having, occasionally, some old forgotten about books, but the rest is only marginally better than P&D (though it is marginally better, IMHO.) Not sure about the cyrstal place in L5P but anything with both "crystal" and a color (other than black) in its name is automatically guilty without need for further investigation.

I was a partner in an occult shop. We were kind of off the beaten path though, across the street from a park known as "witches park, and we were at crossroads as well. There was a burgundy awning in front of the window and an old large wooden door with an ornate brass handle. It was wicked cool inside: an entire wall of herbs, tinctures and oils- my beloved apothecary...sigh.
Walls with wonderful murals painted on- kind of like The Dark Crystal meets The Munsters or Addams Family.
Plenty of plants, a goat's head on the wall (former owner left it there), lots of books, candles galore, various altars (as we practiced a wide variety of traditions, and a couch so people could relax and have a cup of our special teas...
We did sell crystals (lots), tarot bags and boxes that we used to hand make and/or emboss, so they were works of art and very cool.

It was a great shop, so full of character and charm.
I miss it.

What happened? How did you get it off the ground? how did it end?

I had been a customer there for many years and learned about Bach Flower remedies, tinctures, etc, from the woman who owned it. When she was ready to sell it, she offered me first dibs. I had another friend who wanted to go in on it, so we did.
Everything was going well until a few years into it, we brought in a third person (against my better judgment) and then things began to fall apart within the year.
I later discovered he was a meth user, and that obviously had much to do with the discord that occurred. His energy was icky and many long time customers would tell me of his peculiar ways and bad attitude when I wasn't around.
Another thing- after a few lessons from me on candle magick and tarot, he had cards printed up that listed him as a "Kabbalistic Tarot Master" and "Master Practitioner of the Arts." (?)
Freak.

He later tried to use what I taught him against me. Yeah, whatever.

I had enough and pulled my portion out of the business (with them owing me over ten thousand dollars), and after limping along for almost a year, the store closed.

I took them to court and was awarded a judgment in excess of the original ten thousand but to this day, have not seen one penny.

My former partners? The meth head disappeared off the face of the earth and I recently was told he is in prison for life but don't know why.
The original partner lost his trucking and catering businesses, got very ill and eventually moved out of state. I recently tracked down where he lives and plan to serve him again. I will get my investment back.

And that is the end of my sad saga.

Yes, I like the first description. I would also like to see a tea house area where magicians and interesting people could talk magick and philosophy over coffee and tea. Newbies would hang out just to hear the conversations. :)

Definitely going to be tea... I am taking up tea leaf readings, as well as some other more antiquated forms of divination.

Watch out human entrails!
